George Kiraly

Cello

George settled in Vernon in 1974 after completing a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Victoria. Following several seasons as Principal Cellist of the Okanagan Symphony, music theory instructor at Okanagan College, and cello instructor at Vernon Community Music School, he completed a M.Mus at the at the University of Western Ontario, M.Ed. at the University of British Columbia, toured as Principal Cellist of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and was appointed Head of the Fine Arts Department at Medicine Hat College in Alberta. Returning to the Okanagan in 1985 he was appointed Principal Bass of the Okanagan and Kamloops Symphonies. He returned to the position of Principal Cellist of the OSO in 1999 and resumed teaching cello and double bass at VCMS until 2005. Currently he is Principal Cellist of the OSO and is returning to the teaching faculty of the Vernon Community Music School in September, 2011.
